 Drug firm Sanofi India on Wednesday reported a 12.30 per cent increase in net profit at Rs. 57.5 crore for the second quarter that ended on June 30, 2014.

The company had posted a net profit of Rs. 51.2 crore for the corresponding period a year ago.

Net sales rose 18.70 per cent to Rs. 486.7 crore during the quarter under review from Rs. 410 crore a year ago, it said in a filing to the BSE.

Overall expenses stood at Rs. 431.9 crore in the quarter as against Rs. 370.4 crore a year ago.

The company's board, which met on Wednesday, recommended an interim dividend of Rs. 10 per equity share.

Shares in Sanofi India, on Wednesday, ended at Rs. 2939.50 apiece on the BSE, down 1.24 per cent from the previous close.

BGR Energy on Wednesday said it has bagged projects worth Rs. 303 crore across the power, water, oil and gas sectors, taking its total order book to Rs. 11,667 crore.

"BGR Energy in order to mitigate the sluggishness in the thermal power sector is in the pursuit of opportunities in other sectors in India and International market", the Chennai-based company said in a statement.

BGR Energy received the letter of intent (LOI) for two numbers of natural draught cooling towers from BHEL for their 2x660MW Suratgarh Project in Rajasthan.

Recently, the company completed construction of world's tallest cooling towers for Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam project in Jhalawar, Rajasthan, it said.

Similarly, the company received a contract for supply of 400 KV air-insulated switchgear substation and an export order worth $6.7 million in oil and gas sector.

TCS has increased profit over the last two years at a faster pace than rivals Infosys and Wipro, which have both had internal management changes.

The Mumbai-based firm is estimated to post revenue growth of 16 per cent in the next 12 months, compared with Infosys' 8.3 per cent and Wipro's 9.9 per cent, according to Thomson Reuters SmartEstimates.

"Despite its size, TCS remains the fastest growing IT services company in the offshore space... to that extent the premium valuation of TCS is justified. There are not too many stocks that show that kind of revenue traction," said Hitesh Shah of IDFC Securities.

TCS gained 2.1 per cent to end at Rs. 2,586 and outperformed the broader Nifty index, which closed 0.36 per cent higher.

The aggressive pricing of Honda's newly launched Mobilio multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) has reportedly forced Maruti Suzuki India to offer big discounts on its own seven-seater Ertiga.

The Mobilio, Honda's first MPV offering in the country, starts at Rs. 6.49 lakh (ex-showroom price for the base grade petrol version). Ertiga's petrol variant starts at Rs. 5.80 lakh, but sources say India's biggest car maker is offering up to Rs. 85,000 discount on the model to neutralise the Mobilio's likely onslaught.

Mobilio gives Honda a chance to compete in the MUV segment, which accounts for roughly 15 per cent of car sales per month. Honda's other big competitor in the MUV segment will be Toyota's Innova, which sold around 5,400 units in June 2014.

Surjit Arora, auto analyst at Prabhudas Lilladher, told NDTV that Honda Mobilio is a very good product and could sell 2,000-4,000 units per month.

"Honda Mobilio, in terms of looks and performance, is a better product, but in terms of value for money, Ertiga stands out," he added.

In the absence of a good bankruptcy code in India, Reserve Bank is working on a system to enable entrepreneurs seeking to exit insolvent business, a top official of the central bank said.

"We have a tendency in India that we do not like failures. We think everybody should pass and have distinction. We do not have a culture to accept failures.

"How to create that? There is a thinking in Reserve Bank, we have been thinking how to create a system so that people should voluntarily withdraw from an unattractive business," RBI executive director B Mahapatra said in his address on "Managing Stressed Assets" organised by Assocham.

He said it is felt there has to be a good bankruptcy system in India.

Mahapatra said RBI has started working on an enabling system for banks that will help those entrepreneurs seeking an honourable exit from unattractive ventures.

He said here in India the bankruptcy has a stigma attached as, "Nobody wants to be called a bankrupt person...Indian philosophy is that we do not like failures".

Samsung is developing a premium version of the Galaxy Note 4, reports suggest, featuring the bendy screen and metal build that the company is rumoured to have been mulling for aeons.

Sources cited by ET News of South Korea claim that the deluxe edition of the Note 4 will feature a composite metal build that melds stainless steel, aluminium and magnesium.

Those of you with long memories will recall that Samsung was also rumoured to be developing a metal Galaxy S5 and even Galaxy S4, after some tech fans rounded on those handsets’ ‘cheap-feeling’ plastic exteriors.

The prime version of the Note 4 is also purported to pack a bendy screen. But unlike earlier efforts that used similar technology (CF: the ill-fated curved screen-toting Galaxy Round), this time the display will be 50% more flexible.

It’s thought that the handset will not differ from the standard Note 4 in the spec-sheet department. That means we can look forward to an eight-core processor, a 16-megapixel camera and the recently unveiled 4.5 version of Android out of the box.

Apple could turn to smartphone rival Sony to improve the next-generation iPhone’s camera, online whispers suggest.

In recent years, Apple has made more and more moves to temper its reliance on its processor-supplier Samsung, with whom it is now locked in a fight to the death at the top of the smartphone sector.

However, that doesn’t appear to mean it’s entirely averse to forging ties with its competitors. Not if posts on Chinese Sony fansite Digi-Wo are anything to go by, anyway.

According to the site, which boasts an enviable track record with breaking Sony news, the iPhone 6 will feature a Sony Exmor IMX220 camera sensor, with 13-megapixels to play with. Sony’s snapper also features 1080p video recording.

By way of comparison, the iPhone 5S packs a relatively paltry eight megapixels, after Apple opted only to tweak the iPhone 5’s camera for its current-gen flagship.

Assuming Digi-Wo’s claim is on the money, it would mean iPhone fans can look forward to a hefty, very welcome boost to their favourite handset’s camera credentials.
